Today we present to you the Buciaș Nature Reserve, which represents a natural area in the northwest of the Vrancea Mountains (geomorphological subunit of the Curvature Carpathians, belonging to the mountain range of the Eastern Carpathians), consisting of a particularly picturesque relief, a set of rocky cliffs, ridges , tanks, towers, quays and waterfalls.
The Bucias Reserve is located on the administrative territory of Manastirea Casin commune in Bacau county.
Access is possible on the county road Onesti – Casin Monastery to the Scutaru area and further on the forest road Scutaru – Intarcatoare, to the intersection with the Casin river and the Bucias river and then on the forest road to the Bucias waterfall.
The Bucias reserve has an area of 471 ha and is a landscape reservation because it aims to protect natural landscapes with gorges and waterfalls.
This reservation is located on the lower course of the Bucias river which is a tributary of the Casin river, due to the hardness and massiveness of the rocks it forms on its course, some valleys forming the Casin Gorges.
The same falls in its course, giving rise to the Bucias Cascade, which is a cascading waterfall about 15 meters high, and 2-3 km upstream is the Fata Morta waterfall. Locals in the area also call it Bucias waterfall and Zimnicioara waterfall.
The black goat, a protected species and one of the most valuable fauna of our country, has naturally settled in this area.
Also here is the Bucias Hermitage, which is one of the oldest monastic settlements in the Trotuş Valley, which housed, over time, both monks and nuns and dates back to 1920. The first known hermit who lived here (Galaction) and has its eternal place somewhere, on Hărăncel Mountain. The hermitage burned three times, the last time being destroyed by fire in 1993, but it was rebuilt the following year by the believers of the old-style Orthodox rite. Only a few monks live at Bucias Hermitage.
To reach the Bucias Reserve and the Bucias waterfall, we will leave Onești, on DJ 115, towards Cașin Monastery and then, further, towards the village of Scutaru. In total, from Onești to Scutaru, about 15 km, then the last 4 km being on a very well-maintained forest road.
