On warm August nights people look up to the sky, looking for the Perseids – those streaks of light that cross the sky, bringing with them wishes and dreams. Under the same sky, on the grass slightly cooled by the night breeze, our special children also look up.
They don’t understand the cosmic spectacle, but they feel that glimmer of magic, that promise that something good is about to happen.
As the star shower ends and the lights go out, only silence remains.
The children, wide-eyed and shining with hope, turn their gaze to those around them, waiting
…not a shooting star, but a chance at a better life, an outstretched hand that says: “you are just like us”.
For them, each person could be a new universe, a new beginning. In their special world there is only peace and play, mom and dad, brothers and sisters and time passes differently.
Every day is a repetition of hope, every night a silent question: “Will my day come?” They are not looking for miracles, just a chance at a simple life, a walk in the park, a friend, a comfort…a hug, a nice word…
As the Perseids recede, only the fixed, constant stars remain, silent witnesses of waiting.
Children know that not everyone will find that person who will fulfill their wishes, but every day is a new hope, a new beginning.
They never stop dreaming, even if their dreams are not about constellations or distant galaxies, but about love, acceptance and belonging.
In a world where we all want to be part of something bigger, to be loved and accepted, our special children are just looking for a normal life where they are accepted as they are.
When you look at the sky again, remember them.
Be that shooting star that makes their wish come true. If you can, support the work of those who are trying to make their world special, a better world.
